Jaime R. Garza, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S., is double board-certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery (LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans). He is Clinical Professor of Surgery, Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and Assistant Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and President and CEO of Texas Plastic Surgery and Renew Associates, P.A. He was appointed by the Governor of Texas as a Regent to the Texas State University System where he serves as Chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee. He is a founder, general partner and medical board member for the Center for Special Surgery, a Medicare and AAAHC certified ambulatory surgical care facility.

He served as Professor of Surgery and Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1994-2005, where he was founder and Chairman of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a nationally-recognized program that trained most of the country’s military plastic surgeons. He also served the health science center’s Executive Committee as Associate Vice President for South Texas Programs.
He received his M.D. (with honors) and D.D.S. degrees from Louisiana State University Medical and Dental Schools in New Orleans; a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Tulane University. He serves as an editor for national medical journals, including the (JAMA) Journal of the American Medical Association-Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal and has authored multiple book chapters and medical journal articles and abstracts.

He has served as a Principal Investigator in several funded IRB sponsored research projects and is currently Co-PI for one the first IRB approved human clinical trials using autologous stem cells to treat knee pain from osteoarthritis. His early research at LSU Medical Center led to his being awarded a U.S. and a Canadian patent for a facial protective device used to prevent athletic facial injuries.

The 2011-2012 President of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, some of his honors include being inducted into the invitation only, American Association of Plastic Surgeons (oldest plastic surgery society in America), the America Medical Association’s “Emerging Leaders” Award (2000); San Antonio Business Journal’s “Outstanding Physician” award; Texas Monthly’s “Texas Super Doctor” recognition; and Consumer’s Guide’s designation as one of the “Top Doctors in the United States.”

He is an internationally known expert in the treatment of sports related facial injuries; holds a U.S. and Canadian patent on a protective facemask used by NBA and college athletes; is a team physician for the American Hockey League’s San Antonio Rampage, Conference USA’s University of Texas at San Antonio, Trinity University, is a medical consultant to the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and NBA’s San Antonio Spurs and served as tournament physician for several NCAA Final Four basketball tournaments, the USA Olympic Women’s basketball team and the US Olympic Trials. He was a 4 year varsity football letterman at Tulane University and was inducted into the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993 and the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

He and his wife of 28 years, architect Lisa Marie Trail Garza of New Orleans, have four children.
